Happy Easter

This is the beginning of Spring Break for many of the schools in California. I had such a busy week, but still managed to take a break to go pick up my grandsons from school and daycare on Thursday. Priorities! I love getting a chance to see those two adorable boys. They headed out for vacation this morning and I am lucky enough to have charge of Action, the grand dog!

Inventory to on the rise in Tahoe Donner. We have 40 houses on the market today. Let’s see what happens by the end of this vacation week. I bet we get a reduction in numbers as folks from off the hill come up to play in Paradise and just can’t help themselves! It is a magical place to play and own a home!

Truckee and Lake Tahoe Restaurant Week-Great Deals For Amazing Food

Last night my mom and I went out on the town…we had our husbands Erik and Steve in tow with my oldest son Colby who earned a special treat of “big person” night out to celebrate mom’s upcoming birthday.  We hadn’t planned or even heard about the 2nd (or 1st for that matter) Lake Tahoe Restaurant Week, but once we got there and saw that we could get a 4 course meal for $40, it didn’t take long to sign right up!  We had a variety of foods ranging from crab cakes, carmelized brussel sprouts, butternut squash enchiladas, chicken chipotle pasta, walnut and pear salad, cauliflower soup and of course desert…berry crisps, creme brulee and brownie with ice cream with fudge sauce.  I know, YUM!

The ambiance at Cottonwood Restaurant on Hilltop can’t be beat with the over-sized candle chandelier, sparkling lights looking over downtown Truckee and live band in the main dining room.  It is a place I grew up going to with my parents and it’s a special treat to bring my son there.

Many of the region’s top dining establishments are taking part, including 19 Kitchen at Harveys Lake Tahoe, the Beacon Bar & Grill, Black Bear Inn, Chart House, Cottonwood Restaurant & Bar, Crystal Bay Club Steak & Lobster House, Dragonfly, Edgewood Restaurant, the Fresh Ketch, Friday’s Station Steak & Seafood Grill at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Gi Fu Loh at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Hard Rock Café Lake Tahoe, Jake’s On the Lake, Lone Eagle Grille at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Mamasake Sushi, Manzanita Lake Tahoe at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe, Mountain Burrito Company, PlumpJack Café, River Grill, River Ranch Lodge, Sage Room at Harveys Lake Tahoe, Six Peaks Grille at the Resort at Squaw Creek, Soule Domain, Sunnyside Resort, Swiss Chalet Restaurant, Wild Goose Restaurant and Wolfdale’s Cuisine Unique.

This dining special ends on Sunday October 9th, so you still have a couple days left to enjoy this special offer for restaurants all over the Truckee and Lake Tahoe areas.  See more on the Sierra Sun article of where you can go and gather details.

Tahoe Donner Fall Festival this Saturday on October 8th

After rain, hail and snow this week, who isn’t ready for a little fun in the sun (forecast says temps should be in the 60s this weekend in Truckee and Lake Tahoe)?  If you don’t have plans and would enjoy meeting some neighbors, come to Tahoe Donner’s 2nd Annual Fall Festival from 10AM to 4PM this Saturday, October 8th.  My family won’t be able to make it this year but we did go last year and had a blast!  Colby and Bennett each rode their first  ponies, Colby made a carmel apple and had fun in the hay maze.  We got pumpkins, hung out with friends and enjoyed all of the activities Tahoe Donner offered at no charge.  The weather was not great, so many stayed inside, but even with cooler temps it was an event to hit again.  See below for a list of all the activities and click the link for more on Tahoe Donner’s website…Also contact by email mmccloskey@tahoedonner.com or call (530) 582-9646.

300 Miles for Mentoring to benefite Big Brothers Big Sisters

Tomorrow morning at 6AM, 6 riders will take off from the Smokey’s parking lot in Truckee, CA ending at the same place over 24 hours later between noon and 3PM Sunday.  This will be the second year that members of the Tahoe Staff Cycling Team , Hardy Bullock, Carey Thrasher and Ken Bossung will attempt to ride non-stop together for 300 miles.  Why would they do such a thing?  Simply good hearts donating all proceeds from donations to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe’s mentoring programs for at-risk youths.

With the biggest team yet, they will add Chris Barry, Scott Hanson and Mark Hockridge, who will ride with the veterans on a new route that starts and finishes in Truckee, with breaks in Sacramento, Grass Valley and Nevada City along the way.  This year will include a lot more elevation and climbs than the previous year that had more mileage across the Sacramento Valley.

Team leader that Hardy Bullock states “I feel a deep connection to kids who need guidance and support. I feel that as a community we can affect their lives in a positive way now and create a better society in the long run,” he said. “It is also important that my children understand the value of helping others. They inspire me in a profound way; I want to be their hero.”

People are welcome to join the finish at Smokey’s on Sunday for a kids bike giveaway where prize will be awarded by Truckee Mayor Richard Anderson.

Max’s Playground-A Small Boy’s Love Story-Sierra Sun Article

Somehow I missed the beautiful article written about Max Krieg at the end of July, but it was the perfect time to come across it and mention as Max’s Park at Glenshire Elementry in Truckee, CA just opened yesterday for the first day of school.  Max and my oldest son Colby went to preschool together for a brief period before Max started kindergarten last year (2010).  He was really something special with a special light and spark about him.  Read the Sierra Sun article to learn more about his special place and all the love and dedication of the Truckee community in support of this amazing project.
