Our Truckee-Tahoe Humane Society is a great organization that advocates on behalf of our animal family members, and helps educate us about our beloved pets. Always working for animal benefits and safety, always willing to offer expertise and guidance to us, the Society is a great resource. If one or more much-loved dogs have adopted you as part of their family, you’ll want to know how to safely guide and navigate them in public places. In this respect, there’s a valuable workshop coming up on avoiding dog park dangers. Here are a few more details…

What are the five most common behaviors witnessed when dogs congregate off-leash? This presentation will take you on a video tour of them. Whether at a dog park, or when several dogs are out for their constitutional, you need to know when things are safe and when red flags present themselves. You need to learn to recognize early signs of problems before your pooch’s behavior turns into something other than odd or unusual. As the pet protectors and guardians we are, we need to know the differences between fun and playful, aggressive, and red alert.
Sue Sternberg, a canine behavior expert with over 35 year of dog behavior experience, will guide you on this journey; a journey that will ultimately pay off if and/or when your beloved animal is frolicking with other dogs. Sue has been a dog control officer, kennel and animal care technician, trainer, trainers’ trainer, behavior counselor, and many more things. She has created several DVDs on dog behavior and aggression, an iPhone app, and a video repository of dog play and aggressive activities. She is intimately familiar with dog safety and is ready to guide you through what she knows about public dog gatherings.
