I don’t know how I missed it but I recently discovered a new trail off of Glacier at the TOP of Tahoe Donner. Anybody familiar with the trails knows the area I am talking about, Glacier Way trail head off of Skislope above the downhill ski area. There is a good sized parking lot leading to a fire road trail. The trail starts out large and leading you up and up and up.
When you get to the Vista Point overlooking Donner Lake where there’s a picnic table, that’s where the NEW single track starts. It goes up along the mountain and leads down to Negro Canyon or over to Drifter Hut. You can also turn towards the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center and up to Hawk’s Peak or over to the rest of the cross country trail system.
It’s the perfect spot for a hike with the dogs, post work trail run or mountain bike ride. My husband has done the bike ride and said it’s great but there is a LOT of climbing coming out of the canyon and I just LOVE the run/hike aspect…as does my dog Action.
Above are a couple pics of a run I did with Action after work.
