There is a lot of buzz in the building world these days about the upcoming mandatory requirement of sprinkler systems in new construction. Starting 2011 there will be a requirement to put these systems in residential homes, providing both negative and positive response in the community. Two of the major negatives include the increase to building costs ($6/ft installment costs) as well as the fear that the antifreeze needed to limit pipes freezing may in fact increase ignition and add fire risk. Overall it is seen to a feature providing safety and adding value to a home in the long run.
