Last week was the official ground breaking ceremony for the new Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center. It was a very exciting event for those of us who love to cross country ski at Tahoe Donner. In 1987 when I moved here, the center was just opening in the horse stalls. The facility has been an Equestrian Center in the summer and the world class Cross Country Center in the winter. There had been changes and improvements over the years, but the status of the facility has really dictated a major face lift. Last Monday, in three hours, the old facility was taken down and yesterday – Friday the 13th there was a lovely celebration. There had been some very long delays getting the plans through the Town of Truckee and recently the project was approved and the contractor was ready to go. Tom Johns the Tahoe Donner Board President made a great speech in his very characteristic humorous style and humbly thanked all of those who had worked so hard to get the project approved. Because of the delay, the Center is scheduled to be completed mid January 2015 and until then I believe we’ll be checking in for skiing out of temporary structures. But I’m sure it will be well worth the wait!!
