One of the most magical decades was the 1950s: think Dean, Elvis, and Monroe! Spirit, a magical feeling, and larger-than-life celebrities made this an era that will always stay with us. For the 8th year, the Northern California / Lake Tahoe Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society is hosting the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic boat show to benefit charity. This year’s theme is 50s & Fins, and from Friday, July 24 – Saturday, July 26, with events starting out Friday at Noon, you can get in on the fun starting at Tahoe Keys Marina.
You’ve come to expect the pure blue waters of Lake Tahoe; that’s a given. But add in the following to make this event even more remarkable:
- Over 85 of the world’s rarest, most priceless boats
- Music, food, and vendors
- Approximately 3,000 fellow admirers who appreciate it all
On Friday, July 24th the fun starts at Beer Village at noon. The 1950s theme dinner will be held this year at the Pope Estate, starting at 6 p.m. Help celebrate Elvis’ 80th, and the Thunderbirds 75th! You have plenty of time to figure out who you’ll be dressing as that night. They’re still working out the details for Saturday’s events, but be sure to start your day again at Beer Village, from 9 a.m.
Sunday’s event, for members & their guests only, is the Annual Chapter Picnic and Awards Ceremony at Sugar Pine Point State Park.
Every year the Antique & Classic Boat Society makes donations to deserving local charities. In 2014, they donated $2,500 each to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Kiwanis, Tahoe Heritage Foundation, Sierra State Parks, and the Thunderbird Preservation Society. This year sponsors such as Tahoe South, Chevron, Tahoe Keys Resort, and several more will help others in our community.
