Imagine: you’re in Truckee/Tahoe for a few days of skiing, and then really need to get to San Francisco, Carlsbad, or Sacramento for a meeting? Regular airlines and flights can be… annoying. But that’s not the only word: difficult, expensive, inconvenient. Conversely, imagine you do business and/or maybe live somewhere in Silicon Valley, but would really love to grab some good powder this weekend? There’s a new kid on the airline/flying block: Surf Airlines. Surfair, for short.
Surfair flies to TRK – Truckee Tahoe Airport
No doubt, this novel new company will have more specials, but if you would like to try unlimited flying to Surfair destinations for a fixed monthly price, December’s special of $1,750 is on until month’s end. This is a membership program, so regardless of whether or not you take advantage of it immediately, or a little later, you will have to sign-up and pay their initiation fee, as well as an annual subscription. Is this luxury service worth it? You be the judge…
Two separate articles in the LA Times suggest that if your lifestyle suits this kind of city-and-slope hopping, then it is indeed a unique opportunity. To quote Chris Kirkham from an August 17, 2015 LA Times article this new airline is: “a Santa Monica start-up that operates a members-only luxury jet service offering unlimited trips throughout California and to Las Vegas. … Surf Air recently acquired $65 million in financing to purchase 15 new Pilatus PC-12 NG planes, with options to acquire 50 more in coming years.” The company is growing already, and adding new destinations all the time. For example, Palm Springs was added this November.
They advertise themselves as “Air Without the Lines.” Who doesn’t want that! They also claim they are: “the nation’s first private air travel club offering unlimited monthly flights.” Their appeal is to both business and leisure travelers. Right now, they service California. Members get a hassle-free flying experience. Service is superb. You may want to take a look at their promotional video, which we’ve included here for your convenience.
Surfair appeals to the frequent flyer who wants convenience, and wants to be pampered. Recently, they partnered with 41 Ocean, giving their (Surfair’s) members full access to this “sought-after Santa Monica hotspot, with perks like invites to exclusive events throughout the city and a monthly happy hour just for Surf Air Members and guests.”
