Donner Lake or Lake Tahoe? If you’re counting down, the Donner Lake event takes place on May 21, 2016. It kicks off this year’s Tahoe Cup Paddle Racing Series. Whether recreational or race enthusiast, or spectator, you can participate in the excitement of SUP, prone paddleboard, or OCI class. All paddling craft, and paddlers, will have their chance. Following is more information about this year’s Cup.
There are actually three distinct Tahoe Cup Paddle Racing Series events:
- Donner Lake, on May 21, 2016
- Waterman’s Paddle Jam, on July 9, 2016
- Tahoe Fall Classic, on September 11, 2016
If you’re a paddler – if you want to participate and registration isn’t closed for the event you’re interested in – please visit the organizer’s registration page here.
Whose behind ‘the Cup’? Who do we have to thank? The Lake Tahoe Paddleboard Association, a not-for-profit, states in their Mission Statement they want to “promote, provide, and support environmentally friendly human-powered paddlesport activities in the Tahoe Basin.” The Cup has been in existence since 2009. Several key stakeholders assist in this annual effort: participants, sponsors, and exhibitors. Even more of a good news story, all proceeds from the Tahoe Cup go toward benefitting non-motorized aquatic programs in the Truckee-Tahoe area.
