On July 11 this year, starting at 9 a.m., you be part of the Truckee Air Show & Family Festival, taking place at Truckee Tahoe Airport. Not only will there be plenty to do, for all ages; you can have your Salute to Veterans, which is the theme. Popular Grand Marshall Colonel Bud Anderson is being brought back this year for the Air Show.
This is a family event, so in addition to getting to watch planes and pilots fly and perform exciting stunts, you and the kids can listen to music, watch puppet shows, and marvel at stilt walkers as they stroll through the crowd. As the events page for the family activities gets more information, you’ll want to check it out: http://truckeetahoeairshow.com/event-features/family-festival/. Did we mention this was also a free event?
You come to see the courageous performers, of course, and you won’t be disappointed. This year’s list includes:
- Gregory ‘Wired’ Colyer, who served in the United States Army from 1982 – 1987. Greg will be “remembering the people who served our country…” He flies a Lockheed T-33, and his performance is an exciting part of any air show. You can see Greg in action in his Ace Maker video below.
- Sky Dancer, also known as Anna Serbinenko, is a class 1 aerobatic instructor who trains other aerobatic instructors and pilots, and coaches the Canadian Flight Centre’s aerobatic team. Besides her love of flight, Anna holds a PhD in mathematics, speaks six languages fluently, and runs several businesses! You can catch her in flight in the video below.
- Spencer Suderman is a Guinness World Record holder for the inverted Flat Spin; a record he achieved while flying above the California desert in 2014. Have you ever seen the Lomcevak, Double Hammerhead, or Tall Slide maneuvers? These crazy fun stunts, and others, can be seen below and on Spencer’s own website.
- Show pleasers the Red Star Formation Team will be at this year’s AirShow. This precision flying non-aerobatic team will show off the capabilities of the RedStar Pilots Association. Several teams across America, comprised of FAA qualified warbird formation pilots, are part of this larger crack team.
In addition to everything you’ve read here, there will be a VIP Tent, static displays, a veteran’s parade, and more. The event begins at 9, but the official opening ceremony is at 10 a.m. Visit the main website for more information.
